Localization process
RusLAN has reached a great success in localization mainly because of the effective localization process that has been always used in all localization projects since company foundation. RusLAN has also built the management system which is flexible enough to handle uneven workload and solid enough to have the full control of the internal process under any circumstances.
Our localization process consists of the following phases:
Project Preparation Phase
This phase includes analyzing and studying the original product to be localized, previous localized versions of the product (if any); familiarization with the Glossary, Style Guide, other locale specific instructions; resolving of the main terminology issues. In addition, the following is done during this phase:

identification and assigning the members of Project Team

human resources planning including translators, reviewers, engineers, product experts, terminology experts, support engineers, style and terminology coordinators, etc.

determination of environment requirements for setting up the original English product (used by translators/reviewers as reference during localization phase)

files preparation and conversion to the formats required by the translation tools
Localization
Phase
Localization of software, different helps, documentation and other product related materials according to provided Glossary, Style Guides and other instructions.
100% review of the localized materials is a must.
100% proofreading of the localized materials by professional linguists is a must.
Project Manager with mandatory backup person is assigned to each project. Project Manager is always available via e-mail and mobile phone. Project team is formed according to the particular project size, duration and Client requirements.
Testing, Compiling and DTP Phase
Testing and finalization of the product software either in the RusLAN's testing lab or in an external testing laboratory. It includes UI testing, functional testing and comprehensive product builds' testing. Linguists, product engineers, testing engineers, and support engineers are involved in this phase.
Documentation and help files are converted back to original formats (if required). Helps are compiled and extensively tested by engineers with linguists support.
Documentation files are formatted according to the given specifications.
Project Closure Phase
This phase consists mainly of Post Project Analyses (PPA) and archiving. PPA includes both internal analyses and client feedback request on completed project. An internal analysis allows us to enhance internal processes and overall company effectiveness.
Client's feedback is used to analyze RusLAN's responsiveness to Client's needs.

Localization - partners, areas and completed projects
Localization of IT products (software, firmware, websites, etc.) is the process of adapting a product to the language and culture of a country. In particular, this is the translation of the user interface, help files, documentation and related materials of the product from one language to another.
Localization is one of the main activities that our company is engaged in. It was for this purpose - the localization of Novell products - that it was created in 1992.
A number of large projects were carried out by us directly at the request of product owners (for example, Novell, Avaya), and many other localizations, mentioned below, through our business partners, the main ones being LionBridge, UL Group, Telelingua (Amplexor), thebigword. The terms of our cooperation with these partners are measured in decades. The list of end customers is very wide.

IT and telecommunications
RusLAN's largest IT and telecommunications clients are Novell, Hewlett-Packard, 3Com, Avaya, Microsoft, Dell, Canon, Nokia, Motorola, Intel, Lenovo, Adobe, NVidia, MOD-TAP (Molex corporations, USA), Polycom (video conferencing), etc.
We have performed full localization of almost all major Novell products (NetWare, GroupWise, NDS eDirectory, ZENworks, Novell Small Business Suite systems), some information materials, certification tests, as well as their official website www.novell.com.
Most of the projects mentioned included the localization of software, help systems (Windows Help, Java Help, Web Help, and HTML Help) and documentation, as well as compiling and testing help, and providing DTP services for documentation.
We also provided testing services for localized products for Novell. For example, Novell entrusted RusLAN with testing (UI and functionality) of NetWare 2.15, NetWare 3.11, NetWare 3.12, NetWare Lite (in our test lab in Ivanovo, Russia), NetWare 4.11 and NetWare 5 and NetWare 6 (in Novell test lab in Provo , Utah, USA).
We have successfully completed many localization projects for Hewlett-Packard. Most of the projects were done for the printing and digital imaging division of Hewlett-Packard. We also provided testing services for Hewlett-Packard equipment at its (Boise, Idaho, USA) and our testing labs.
It should also be noted projects for Microsoft (Windows Mobile OS), Nokia, Motorola, Lenovo mobile telephony projects. As well as many projects completed and ongoing for Google, Dell and Canon.
Economics and finance
Major projects in this area have been completed for Hyperion Solutions. These projects were Hyperion Pillar - one of the world's leading corporate budgeting products. RusLAN provided a full range of localization and testing services, including translation of software, help system and documentation, software testing, compiling and testing help, and DTP services.
Many projects were also completed for the largest European bank Deutsche Bank.

Mechanical engineering

Over the past three years, our company has been localizing the technical documentation of John Deere, an American engineering company that produces agricultural, construction and logging equipment, on an ongoing basis. This company is the world's largest manufacturer of agricultural machinery.
Pulp and paper industry
The main projects in this area are projects carried out for International Paper, one of the largest international manufacturers of paper, pulp and packaging made from renewable wood fiber.
The peculiarities of these projects were that we localized educational materials for Russian personnel with the subsequent passing of exams and tests. These materials described in detail the main technological stages of production, ranging from wood preparation, pulp production, paper and cardboard production, paper processing, and ending with its cutting and packaging. This localization was quite difficult for us, because it required good knowledge of the terminology and features of such production.
Multimedia and multimedia equipment
In this area, we have carried out projects for the following clients:

DK (publisher of best-selling and award-winning visual entertainment titles and interactive encyclopedias for adults and children). We have localized 8 multimedia encyclopedias of DC into Russian. The largest of these had about 200,000 words, 70 animations, and 50 movies.

Muvee Technologies (a software company that produces software and provides services for automated video editing on Windows and Android operating systems). We have localized software, help files, technical and service documentation, and marketing materials. Our current client since 2006. The total volume of localization is 420,000 words.

SanDisk Corp., now Western Digital (a leading manufacturer of flash memory cards for graphics, computing, mobile and gaming devices). We have localized technical and service documentation for devices, marketing materials and information on the corporate website. Our current client since 2007. The total volume of localization is 450,000 words.
