Localization of systems, applications and games is the main area of ​​activity of our company.

Localization is the adaptation of a product to the needs and preferences of users in a different language region. Translation decisions are a key component of localization, but other aspects such as local rules or cultural differences are also taken into account.

Our specialists help to prepare the product for entering foreign markets. After localization, it will fully meet the expectations of users. We take into account the specifics of each country, as well as any national and international requirements.

As a rule, the localization of systems, applications and games includes the translation of documentation and help files, as well as the localization of software modules of the product.

Localization of software modules of the product is the most difficult task. The complexity of its implementation depends on the received design specifications. For example, in the early releases of Novell NetWare 3.11 and 3.12, the customer provided us with only the executable software modules of the products. It was necessary to find all the text messages in them and competently localize them so that there were no fragments of words and incomprehensible abbreviations. For example, space for long menu items was carved out at the expense of short items so that the length of the overall menu test would remain the same. This is not a trivial task, since the English text is more compact than the Russian one. Of course, it is necessary to choose the most concise translation without compromising the meaning. However, this feature made it possible to immediately check the localizable module.

Thanks to the development of localization technologies, it allowed customers to transfer text components extracted from modules to us for localization (menu elements, diagnostic messages, etc.), specifying in some cases the maximum length of the translation of a particular text. Upon completion of the translation, the localized test was sent to the customer, who compiled the modules for the Russian language and sent it to us for linguistic verification and testing.

We have completed many localization projects of large systems, for example:

 

• NetWare 2.15 through 6.5 and Open Enterprise Server

• GroupWise 6, 6.5

• ZENworks (several versions)

• Novell Small Business Suite 5.1, 6, 6.5

It should also be noted large projects in the economic and financial sphere, completed for Hyperion Solutions (USA). One of these projects was the localization of Hyperion Pillar 4.7, one of the world's leading products in corporate budgeting. The Russian version of this product was subsequently implemented in many large organizations in Russia. RusLAN provided a full range of localization and testing services for this product, including translation of software, help system and documentation, software testing, compilation and testing of help, and DTP services.

The RusLAN team also localized the PRO-WATCH system, a complete system for controlling access of personnel and visitors to corporate facilities based on hardware and software. This system is designed and supplied by Honeywell, an American corporation that manufactures electronic control and automation systems. One of the main activities of the company is technologies for the operation of buildings and industrial facilities. On behalf of Honeywell, through one of our partners, we localized the software, help files, and documentation for this system.

For Microsoft, we localized the Windows Mobile 5.1 system software and help.
